The Votive Light Stands at Our Lady’s Altar
are now open again should you wish
to make an offering before Mass starts.
Please, only one person (and their child) may visit Our Lady’s Altar at any one time, always remembering to observe social distancing.
I suggest you leave something on your seat, e.g. article of clothing, missal, etc, but not a handbag or purse, to show it is occupied while you visit Our Lady’s Altar.
Please think of others and
do not touch the statues or other sacred images in the Church.
Do not visit Our Lady’s Altar after
receiving
Holy Communion,
you must leave the Church.

The prayer group, with members from
various parishes, has been meeting every
two weeks using Zoom conferencing.
You will be most welcome to join us
in sharing the gospel message and
offering individual prayers.

Supporting missionaries who work alongside communities that are poor or in need, regardless of their background or belief.

November List
All who wish to have their deceased relatives and friends included in the Masses of
the Holy Souls to be offered at St. Matthias during the month of November are
invited to submit a list of names.
Special envelopes are provided
in the Church Porch.
Donations (including your Gift Aid number) towards these Masses are appreciated but not essential, so please feel free to submit a list with or without a donation.
Please let me have your list ASAP.
This year, because of the need for social distancing, there will not be the usual November Book of Remembrance.
Instead your lists of names will be stored in a special container next to the Tabernacle.

The Bible Timeline Course -
Free of Charge & Live Streamed
We are pleased to bring to your attention a wonderful opportunity in this Year of the Word: The God Who Speaks.
Mauro Iannicelli will deliver, via live-streaming, The Bible Timeline Course, starting on Wednesday 4th November 2020 at 7.00pm, over 7 weekly sessions.
We would like to encourage as many people as possible to experience this inspirational and evangelistic course.
Ahead of the launch of the Course in November, you are invited to a course presentation on Zoom with Mauro Iannicelli next Thursday 22th October 7.00pm-7:45pm, where you will be able to ask any questions you may have about the course he will deliver.

St. Matthias has a QR code!
The government introduced a new Test and Trace App on 24th September.
Individuals can download this to a mobile device, which then allows them to use
a QR code to register their attendance at Church.
Should someone receive a positive Covid test the App will be used to contact
other attendees and advise them what to do.
The OR code can be found in the Church porch.
Using this method to register your arrival at Church replaces the need to
complete a Track & Trace form.
I have used it and it is very quick and easy.
It can be downloaded from the App Store or get it on Google Play.
Sadly the system may not work on older phones, or you may need to download the
latest updates.

made it possible to have weekend public Masses again.

Second Collections
Given Covid -19 the programme of Second Collections in the Archdiocese has been
rescheduled according to the following timetable for the remainder of 2020.
This means some doubling up of collections, but, given the circumstances, this
seems an appropriate way forward, recognising that some people will also be
facing personal financial challenges at this time.

Gift Aid Envelopes
If you usually have a box of envelopes, you will be aware that at the current
time we are unable to distribute the new boxes.
If you wish to continue posting your contribution through the Presbytery
letterbox and you have run out of the Gift Aid envelopes please remember to add
your name and, if you can, your unique Gift Aid number.
The number is located on the front bottom left hand side of the usual Gift Aid
envelope.
You may wish to consider making donations to the parish by standing order
instead.

Mass at Saint Matthias
We are celebrating public Mass again at St. Matthias beginning with a Mass on
Thursday and three weekend Masses.
Thursday at 10.00am, Saturday at 6.30pm, followed by Sunday at 9.30am
and 11.15am.
The Church will open 20 minutes before Mass and close immediately after
for cleaning.
Public Masses can only be celebrated if we follow strict Government guidelines
and regulations.
This is to help keep everyone safe.
We are following the 1 metre + rule so there is a limited number of seats.
You must also wear a face mask or covering.
The lavatories must remain closed.
1) No one with flu-like symptoms should attend Mass
2) There is no obligation to attend Mass
We can attend Mass if we are confident that we can do so safely. It is
acceptable to continue watch Mass online and receive Spiritual Communion. The
necessary resources for this are available on the Parish website at
www.saintmatthias.co.uk
3) One way system
We enter using the front doors of the Church and exit the Church using the door
next to St. Joseph’s Altar and then the back door of the Parish Centre.
DO NOT Enter by the back door.
4) Track and Trace
All members of the congregation must give their names and contact details
for every Mass they attend. This can be done by using the St. Matthias QR
code as detailed above, or bring with them a piece of paper.

These must be deposited on entry. The information will be stored for 21 days and
then destroyed in compliance with Data Protection guidelines. This requirement
is part of the Government’s 'Track and Trace' system.
5) Face covering
We are keeping the one metre plus rule for Social Distancing in Church.
Therefore everyone who can must wear a face covering. Those who can’t wear a
face covering should keep at least 2 metres distance. If people forget, we will
try to provide a suitable mask.
6) Hand Sanitizer must be used on entry and exit.
7) Capacity in Church To maintain Social Distancing
Half the pews are taped off and cannot be used. Please follow the
instructions of the Stewards who will show you to your seat. Please do not
change seats. At any Mass, if the Church is full, no-one else can come in. I
hope this doesn’t happen. But we have to accept that this is a possibility. It’s
about keeping one another safe and fulfilling the required conditions to open.
If we don’t limit numbers, we are not allowed to open for Public Masses.
As there is no Sunday Obligation, it is acceptable to continue watch Mass online
and receive Spiritual Communion. The necessary resources for this are available
on the Parish website at

8) Cash and Gift Aid envelopes can be left in the collection
baskets next to the internal Church doors.
9) Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
10) The Sacristy is closed to parishioners.
11) Familiar elements of the Mass, which aren’t currently possible
There will be no Altar Servers. The Scripture readings will be done by
the Priest. There will be no congregational singing. There will be no sharing of
the Peace or Offertory Procession.
Sadly we cannot safely have Children’s Liturgy. However, there are Children’s
Liturgy resources available on the Parish website at
www.saintmatthias.co.uk
12) Receiving Holy Communion
We receive the host—the Body of Christ on the hand at arm’s length.
Only the Priest receives the Precious Blood from the Chalice. We will be using
the following option suggested by the Bishops:
The priest receives Holy Communion as described and immediately cleanses his
paten and chalice. He then holds a reverent silence before the Prayer after
Communion, giving the Blessing and dismissal.
At this point, the other Ministers of Holy Communion who will assist the priest
come forward, cleanse their hands and receive Holy Communion under one kind.
They should then cleanse their hands again before
receiving their ciborium from which they remove the covering or pall if it is
still in place.
They then move to the points for distribution and communicants are
stewarded forward in an orderly manner to receive Holy Communion as above, and
then
immediately leave the Church via the rear door next to
St. Joseph’s Altar.
The remaining Blessed Sacrament is placed into the Tabernacle and the vessels
cleansed in the usual way.
When you come to receive Holy Communion or an individual blessing, please follow
all directions given by the Priest and Stewards and do your best to maintain
Social Distancing.
13) Please ensure you leave nothing behind.
14) Stewards
assist in making sure people are safely seated and in directing people
coming for Holy Communion. After Mass stewards and/or cleaners assist in wiping
down pews and mopping the floor. Ideally we need two Stewards/Cleaners at each
Mass.
Please consider being a steward/cleaner. The main job is to be available 30
minutes before Mass to help Fr Kevan seat people appropriately and to stay
behind after Mass to help wipe the pews and/or mop the floor. They should not be
'clinically vulnerable, self isolating or shielding'.

mini-series ‘Christ is Alive’. This is an invitation for young people to focus
